SPFX-DA Disk Analyst

Overview

Disk analysis and capacity planning are two management disciplines often overlooked by MIS organizations. The two most commonly cited reasons are lack of time and/or lack of appropriate tools. However, regular disk analysis and clean-up are critical to avoid having your disk storage space become unnecessarily consumed by data or output that has not been purged. Hardware and/or software resources can be added or changed according to plan rather than reaction. Overall system performance can be enhanced.

The SPFX-DA Disk Analyst is a tool designed to assist MIS professionals in the collection, analysis, and management of AS/400 disk storage space by object, library, and owner. By extracting and summarizing disk usage data in methods that can be customized to each system, it greatly reduces the time required to identify areas required to clean-up for recovery of disk space.

The Disk Analyst starts with data collections over Daily, Weekly, and Monthly periods. Each collection can be tuned for the system it runs on to allow an entire collection to be run more expediently. Collection data can be analyzed and compared to each other for growth patterns. Purge criteria is specified for each level of collection so that the collection data itself does not present a disk space problem.

Once completing the initial setup of the Disk Analyst, it is essentially a hands-free operation, except for the displaying and printing of information from collections and comparisons, and submitting data collection comparisons to batch.
